'In
Conversation with
4 Venice Curators'
Temple Bar Gallery and Studios - Studio 6 6:30pm Thursday, 24th February 2005 BOOKED OUT Temple Bar Gallery and Studios presents 'In Conversation with 4 Venice Curators' the second in a new series of talks programmed at the gallery for 2005. Programmed by Noel Kelly, curator at Temple Bar Gallery and Studios, this open forum will be chaired by Caoimhin MacGiollaLeith, Art Critic. The discussion will see Sarah Glennie (Ireland), Hugh Mulholland (Northern Ireland), Karen MacKinnon (Wales), and Jason E. Bowman (Scotland) come together in a pre-Venice Biennale discussion. This is the first such opportunity to discuss the actualities of Venice 2005 with such a group of curators. Central to the discussion will be a focus on the conceptualisation and creation of identity of the "pavilion", with a view into the constraints of selection, and the actual reality of presentation in La Biennale for artist, curator, and sponsoring country. Active audience participation is invited during the discussion. Sarah Glennie, curator for the Irish Pavilion, is an independent curator based in Ireland. She has a BA in History of Art from the University of Bristol and an MA in Museum and Curatorial Studies from the University of Manchester. She has worked with Tate St Ives and Kettle's Yard Gallery at the University of Cambridge, the Irish Museum of Modern Art, and has curated both in Ireland and Internationally. Sarah is currently a board member of Temple Bar Gallery & Studios. Hugh Mulholland, curator for the Northern Irish Pavilion, is Director of the Ormeau Baths Gallery Belfast since 1997. He has during this period curated major exhibitions by prominent International artists including, Bill Viola, Gilbert & George, Yoko Ono, David Byrne, Hans Peter Kuhn, Stan Douglas, Willie Doherty, Victor Sloan and Alastair MacLennan. Karen MacKinnon, curator for the Welsh Pavilion, has been a curator in Wales for the past 10 years and is currently on secondment for one year from the Glynn Vivian Art Gallery, Swansea where she is Exhibitions Officer. From 1995-2000 she was Visual Arts Programmer at Chapter Arts Centre, Cardiff and for several years was on the board of directors for Bloc -forum for art and new technology. Recent exhibitions/publications include Rut Blees Luxemburg Ffolly, Shimabuku Swansea Jack memorial dog swimming competition and Elsewhere and exhibition of work by 8 international artists from Wales. Jason E. Bowman, co-curator for the Scottish Pavilion with Rachel Bradley, trained as an artist and cultural theorist and has exhibited widely. In recent years Jason has developed an expanded practice that produces research into the societal value of artistic behaviour. He focuses on developing projects in the public realm and on cultural development initiatives that support artist-led culture. Booking is ESSENTIAL. Places are restricted to
